Biography

George Nooks aka Prince Mohammed is a Jamaican singer, songwriter and
producer who was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1960. For over forty years George Nooks has graced audiences with his musical genius spanning three genres: Lovers Rock, reggae, and gospel. Since his
entry into the music industry, he has proven time and again that when it comes to his talent, he is multifaceted. This started in the early years of his career when he managed to score hits under two different names: George Nooks and Prince Mohammed.

Early Years

George Nooks started his musical career singing in the youth choir at his church before moving on to performing at school concerts and talent shows. His first break came in 1974 as a deejay on Discomix
under his moniker Prince Mohammed. During this time he recorded the
covers of an artiste he held in high regard and admiration: Dennis Brown. The songs he covered included Brown’s Money In My Pocket and How Could I Leave. He later went on to record five albums under the name Prince Mohammed before changing his stage name to George Nooks in 1981.

1981-Present

George Nooks was able to successfully accomplish this under both his birth name (George Nooks) and his moniker (Prince Mohammed). With over 40-years in the music industry George Nooks continues to show that he cannot be boxed in where his talent is concerned. After chalking up one hit after another with his smooth voice delivering perennial Lovers Rock favourites such as Left With A Broken Heart, Hero, Since I Fell For You, Riding For A Fall and the Chilites cover Homely Girl, Nooks turned his attention to gospel and the connection was instant! The impressive trail that he has left since he stamped his mark with God Is Standing By, to gospel classic covers including Ride Out Your Storm, I Must Tell Jesus, and God Is Always There For Me has lead to George Nooks being a top request for both gospel functions and secular
events. His entry into the gospel music arena was his way of honouring his grandmother’s last wish for him to sing the songs of Zion. His only regret is that she never lived to listen the first track he did for her, but in his heart he believes she knows.
